Reports To Head Cook
Department Head Start & Early Head Start
Hours 8AM – 5PM
Travel Some travel to various work and vendor sites
Salary Range DOE
Employee Status Regular, Full-time
Supervises None
Benefits Medical, Dental, and Vacation on the first of the month following 90 days of employment. Vacation accrual at a rate of two weeks per year for the first five years.

Program The Unity Council is a non-profit community development corporation Summary committed to enriching the quality of life of families primarily in the Fruitvale District of Oakland. Its primary focus has been to create a healthier and safer community for families and residents by implementing and managing integrated programs addressing the economic, social, and physical development.

Responsibilities The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
•  Assist and support the Head Cook in all duties relating to producing necessary meals and snacks;
•  Assist in keeping orderly and well-stocked food pantries;
•  Work in a team with other cooking staff;
•  Keep kitchen and eating areas in immaculate, sanitary condition;
•  Fill in as needed for Head Cook when and if necessary;
•  Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor or manager
 

Qualifications Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
•  Education and/or experience in food service;
•  Two years experience working as a cook;
•  Experience with State or Federally funded program with adjunct reporting;
•  Ability to work harmoniously in a multicultural team;
•  Bilingual Spanish/English or Asian Language/English preferred;
•  Awareness and commitment of safe use of all equipment and supplies as well as safe lifting techniques.
