TEACHER I
(2007)

Reports To Site Director
Department Head Start & Early Head Start
Hours 8AM – 5PM
Travel Some travel to various work and vendor sites
Salary Range DOE
Employee Status Regular, Full-time
Supervises None
Benefits Medical, Dental, and Vacation on the first of the month following 90 days of employment. Vacation accrual at a rate of two weeks per year for the first five years.
 

Program Summary
The Unity Council is a non-profit community development corporation committed to enriching the quality of life of families primarily in the Fruitvale District of Oakland. Its primary focus has been to create a healthier and safer community for families and residents by implementing and managing integrated programs addressing the economic, social, and physical development.

Responsibilities The duties and responsibilities include but not limited to the following:
•  Implement daily activities such as snack time, toileting, supervision of children's activities and general clean-up;
•  Implement daily activities such as child-centered learning, assisting in planning, indoor/outdoor activity centers, language extension;
•  Assist with curriculum planning;
•  Assist in the evaluation of children's progress;
•  Assist in communications with families;
•  Attendance at regular staff meetings;
•  Perform additional duties as assigned by supervising Teacher III, Site Director and management.
 

Qualifications
•  High School Diploma or GED;
•  Minimum of 12 units of Early Childhood Education from a regionally accredited institution and the willingness to continue education;
•  One year experience working with toddlers or preschool children;
•  Ability to follow daily curriculum plans;
•  Ability to work harmoniously in a multi-cultural team;
•  Caring, compassionate approach to working with children;
•  Awareness of safe lifting techniques for lifting children, supplies and furnishings and commitment to using preventative health measures in the classroom to prevent spread of disease.
