The Unity Council provides comprehensive workforce development services through its Multi-Cultural One Stop Career Center that specializes in serving limited English proficient clients and provides services in eight languages: Spanish, Laotian, Mien, Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Cambodian, and English. In 2003-04, over 5,000 visits were recorded, and over 1,000 individuals received their first ever services from our One Stop Career Center. The program participants receive comprehensive services from an extensive partnership that includes: Cambodian Community Development Incorporated, Merritt Community College, Oakland Unified School District Adult Education, Oakland Housing Authority, Alameda County, and four community health centers.

Clients are prepared to enter the workforce by receiving intensive case management and support services, on-site community college classes, and paid work experience that assists them in moving into unsubsidized employment. The services are linguistically and culturally appropriate and available at 1900 Fruitvale Avenue near Foothill Boulevard, a primary location in the neighborhood, with easy access to staff, classes and supportive services. To reach the One Stop Career Center front desk, please call (510) 535-6101, or visit the center Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.
