 AmeriCorps members enhance our Workforce Development program that serves limited English proficient clients from several language groups including: Spanish, Vietnamese, and Laotian. AmeriCorps members provide tutoring and mentoring in English, and assist clients in accessing One Stop Career Center services. The AmeriCorps program also provides leadership development for our members. In addition to working directly with clients, the members must create two new partnerships with community organizations to provide a minimum of two service events per year.
The AmeriCorps members also participate as volunteers in our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) project. This project has assisted over 1,500 families and has returned over $750,000 in earned income tax credit (EITC) to our community. The AmeriCorps program has proven to be an excellent opportunity for youth from our community to develop into our future leaders.
