AmeriCorps members are comprised of youth from the Fruitvale community who participate in leadership development and vital community projects. Members play a significant role in supporting and enhancing the Unity Council’s One-Stop Career Center by providing multilingual tutoring and mentoring services.  They are also essential to bolstering new Unity Council programs, such as our Youth and Cultural Arts Center at the Masonic Temple.  With the guidance of the Unity Council, Americorps members are able to build their skills while helping to improve their neighborhood.

In addition to working directly with clients, each year AmeriCorps members create two new partnerships with community organizations and provide a minimum of two service events per year. They also participate as volunteers in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) project which has assisted over 2,300 families and has returned over $1 million in earned income tax credit (EITC) to our community.

The AmeriCorps program provides an excellent opportunity for youth from our community to develop into future leaders.
